Faviola Sanchez, 21, is a senior at The University of Texas-Pan American and plans to graduate May 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. She graduated from South Texas High School for Health Professions in 2006 under the Distinguished Achievement Plan. Sanchez was an active member of the Health Occupations Students of America organization during high school, while attaining a Pharmacy Technician Certification. After being certified she began working at Mission Regional Medical Center’s pharmacy for a year where she was inspired to become a pharmacist. While working at the hospital, Sanchez also worked as a UTPA Collegiate G-Force mentor where she assisted high school students with their high school to college transition. As a college student she is now part of the Bronc Pre-Pharmacy Association and the G-Force organization. She currently holds a work-study position with the Mother Daughter Program in which she enjoys building stronger bonds between mothers and middle school daughters. In addition to building bonds, she plays a major role in motivating the girls to continue their education by enhancing their college awareness. Her volunteer activities include participation in the Heart of the Valley Health Fair, Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Overall, Sanchez would like to continue helping her community through her efforts as a well-rounded person and in the future as a pharmacist.
