What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation I plan to attend medical school in Texas and receive my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Afterwards, I plan on completing a residency in emergency medicine.

Do you plan to return to the Valley?

Definitely. I plan on returning to the Valley after gaining some medical experience outside of the Valley and using my knowledge and experience to help the Valley. I will always feel at home in the Valley, and will consider returning to San Benito.

What has your education done for you?

My education has done wonders for me. Growing up, my parents have made sure that school came first because it was the only way to advance. My education has opened up doors to me and has allowed me to realize that nothing is impossible. My education has gotten me where I am and I hope it will get me even further in life.

How do you feel about your UTPA experience?

Attending UTPA has been great! The professors and students you meet are some of the greatest people you will ever meet. UTPA has given me the opportunity to grow mentally and socially while also strengthening my beliefs and morals. UTPA has many opportunities to get to know others and also become a better leader, student, and person. I am really glad I chose to attend UTPA.

What is your best tip for success?

My best tip for success is to never give up on your dreams. Stay focused on why you came to college and try your best to be your best. I always keep in mind why I am in college and stay focused, determined, and motivated. If you know you can do it and believe in yourself, then you will do it.

What advice do you have for college-bound students?

College is very different than high school. You have to make the transition a smooth one. Ask professors questions if you are lost in class and get involved on campus and in the community. Use the myriad resources campuses have to offer. Also, don’t stress out over papers and tests, learn how to manage your time, don’t procrastinate, and study! College can be an awesome experience if you make it one.
