Ariana Acosta, 20, a senior at The University of Texas Pan-American, plans to graduate with a both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science in Accounting as well as a double minor in leadership studies and Spanish in fall 2010. Acosta is a member of numerous organizations including the Student Leadership Program, University Program Board, Accounting Society, Golden Key International Honour Society, and Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society for freshmen students. As a Certified Peer Educator, Acosta volunteers as a tutor for the College Assistant Migrant Program and as a teacher at her local church where she offers academic guidance to other young students. In addition, she has participated in various events such as Adopt an Angel, Keep McAllen Beautiful, HESTEC, Adopt a Beach, and Make a Difference Day.
Upon graduation, I plan to work for a local CPA firm and continue helping out nonprofit organizations and my community.
I plan to stay in the Valley because I believe it is a fast growing community that has many opportunities for its citizens.
It has allowed me to view things differently, to appreciate all the things I have, and to grow as an individual. In addition, my education has exposed me to great opportunities where I have met wonderful individuals who have mentored me and taught me many things. My education has given me the necessary tools to succeed in my profession and achieve any of my goals.
I feel I made the right choice of staying at UTPA. This university has many things to offer to its students and allows us to grow every day. UTPA has great leaders who do extraordinary things for us; professors and staff are very helpful and are always willing to help the students.
I believe that success is a process; anybody can achieve their goal, but they must remain focused, dedicated, and learn to view failures as a learning experience. It is not the times that you have failed that count; it’s what you’ve learned from your mistakes and the attitude you’ve had toward picking yourself up.
Anything is possible and we are our only obstacle. Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything; never let anybody or anything stop you from achieving your goals!
