What are your plans after graduation?

After graduating, I plan to attend graduate school and eventually obtain a Ph.D. in political science, with a focus on foreign policy and international human rights. Ultimately, I would like to become a college professor and focus my work/research on the socio-economic and political systems in developing nations. Peace advocacy, human rights advocacy, and public service will play an essential role in my work.

Do you plan to stay in the Valley?

I always will consider the Valley my home. While I will attend graduate school outside the Valley, I will return frequently to visit my family and all of my wonderful friends who have influenced my life.

What has your education done for you?

My education has made me a stronger and more confident individual. It has made me more aware of the immeasurable social issues/problems that exist in today’s world. I have been able to frame and strengthen my own ideological beliefs while, at the same time, remaining open and tolerant of others’ views and opinions.

How do you feel about your UTPA experience?

I would not trade my time at UTPA for anything in the world; it has been the most enriching and enlightening experience of my life. In particular, I wish to thank Drs. Freeman, Mounce, and Wenzel in the Department of Political Science, and Drs. Himmel and Liebowitz in the Department of Sociology, who have inspired me through their diverse knowledge, insight, and instruction.

What is your best tip for success?

Stay focused, and never let anyone make you feel you are incapable of accomplishing something. Operating with honesty, integrity, and respect for others is the only way to guarantee success. Do not be afraid to voice your opinion, even if it seems unorthodox – this is the only way positive change occurs.

What advice do you have for college-bound students?

Prioritize, discipline yourself, and strive to achieve what you know is your personal best. Get to know your professors – they have invaluable life experiences to back up what they profess and why they profess it.
