Special Information
Information for disabled candidates
If you are a prospective degree candidate with a disability (hearing
impairment, vision impairment or mobility impairment) requiring special
assistance during your commencement ceremony, contact the Office of the
Registrar in advance at 956/381-2389.
Information for guests with disabilities
For individuals with disabilities (hearing impairment, vision impairment or
mobility impairment) attending commencement and needing assistance or
special accommodations in order to attend, should contact the Office of the
Registrar at 956/381-2389, at least one week prior to the event.
A section solely for guests in wheelchairs is provided on
the main floor at commencement directly behind the degree candidates. The ADA
(Americans with Disabilities Act) coordinator at the University with assistance
from the UTPA Office for Services for Persons with Disabilities manages the area.
For individuals who plan to sit in this section, they will be allowed one family
member to remain with them in the area.
Note: Due to limited seating, this section accommodates
requests on a first-come, first-served basis.
