UTPA faculty member appointed by Gov. Perry to State Physician Assistants Board

Dr. Felix Koo, clinical coordinator of the Physician Assistant Studies Program at The University of Texas-Pan American, was among four persons in the state recently appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve on the Texas Physician Assistants Board.

Koo, from McAllen, is a volunteer medical director of Hope Family Health Center in McAllen and a volunteer pediatrician for the Alton Church of Christ Health Projects. Koo also serves as a board member of the Children’s Defense Fund-Rio Grande Valley.

He received a doctorate degree in microbiology from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and a doctorate of medicine from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Koo's primary areas of research and expertise are: (1) the epidemiology of hepatitis A and febrile syndromes in South Texas; and (2) indigent health care issues in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.

Koo's term on the board will expire Feb. 1, 2011.
